The Forbidden Kingdom: Believe the Hype
by ChrisCould it really be worth the hype? Could it really be the Kung Fu epic we’ve been waiting for? Could the fight between Jet Li and Jackie Chan be as good as we’ve all imagined it would be?
YES!!!!
The Forbidden Kingdom was and is everything you’ve been hoping for. It had every Kung Fu movie cliché you’d expect. Martial artists that walk through the trees, the random nobody kid who actually has an awesome destiny, beautiful but deadly Asian women, a silent but deadly Jet Li, and Jackie Chan as the drunken master.
I don’t want to give away too much and leave you with some of the great surprises that the movie holds. Just so you aren’t going “what’s going on here?” I’ll give you a little synopsis of the plot. You have poor Jason, the kid obsesses with Kung Fu movies (shocker) in modern day New York really close to Chinatown (surprise, surprise). Through random circumstances he ends up in possession of a magical staff and ends up in ancient China.
I’ll assume, at this point that if you’ve never watched a Kung Fu or Martial Arts movie, that you have also stopped reading this article, lol.
I know, I know; “what about the fight between Jet Li and Jackie Chan?!?!?” Well I’m getting there. First I have followed in Andy’s footsteps and ended up with my own Hollywood crush: Yifei Liu. She plays Golden Sparrow, the orphaned girl from a town destroyed by the Jade Warlord. There’s something about a beautiful Asian woman who can throw spikes and fight with daggers. Trust me.
(I checked www.IMDB.com she’s 21. born August 25th 1987)
And now what you’ve all been waiting for, the answer to the question everyone had about this movie. “Was the fight between the two greatest martial artists alive today as good as we’ve all dreamed it would be?”
nope.
OF COURSE IT WAS!!!! Do you really think it could have been bad? The two of them could have just stood there and alternated reading lines in the phone book and I would have paid my $10.50 to watch (you would have too, admit it). I don’t want to say any more then that, not that I could ruin it or over hype it, but I just can’t do it justice.
That’s it. That’s all you’re getting from me for now. All I can say is it’s worth seeing. I’m definitely going again. Do not miss this on the big screen. I don’t care how big and cool your TV and surround sound system are, it won’t be the same.

Ok i need to see this now. Im a Martial Arts movie buff and I so cant miss this one.
I saw it last night at the drive-in. So good. And yes that fight scene was amazing, but not as funny as the “stop hitting yourself” moment with jackie + jet li’s characters with jason in the middle “training”. Good times seeing these two giants on screen together.
