And this weekends winners are…..

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debuted #1 at the box office this weekend, earning $101 million. The film earned $126 million since opening on Thursday and had the highest per theater average of any film in the top ten with $23,708 per theater. The opening now stands as the 10th biggest ever (Spider-Man 3 remains #1 with $151.1 million). The film also had the 9th highest single day gross ever, with $37 million on Saturday (#1 is Spider-Man 3 with $51.3 million on 5/05/07) and the 4th highest Thursday gross ever with $25 million (#1 is Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith with $50 million).

So with Indy taking over the box office this weekend. Lets see how the rest of the competition came in.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian fell sharply in its second weekend, earning $23 million to raise its total gross to $91 million. Which is still $110 million short of its production cost. Looks like 2 years was way too long to wait for a sequal.

Iron Man fell one spot to #3 with $20.1 million, improving its four week total to $252.3 million. Looks like Marvel has finally done it. Congrats to them!

What Happens In Vegas fell one spot to #4 with $9 million, improving its three week total to $54.2 million.

Speed Racer fell one spot to #5 in its third weekend, earning $4 million to raise its total gross to $36.2 million. This is the BOMB of the summer. It cost a whopping $120 MIllion to make, so that still leaves it as $60 million in the red. Looks like WB screwed the pooch on this craptastic thing. Heck overseas it only made $21.3 million.

Made of Honor fell one spot to #6 in its forth weekend, earning $3.4 million to raise its total gross to $39 million.

Baby Mama fell one spot to #7 in its fifth weekend, earning $3.3 million to raise its total gross to $52.1 million. THATS RIGHT! BABY MOMMA MADE MORE THEN SPEED RACER!!! HAHAHAHAHA

Forgetting Sarah Marshall fell one spot to #8 in its sixth weekend, earning $1.6 million to raise its total gross to $58.1 million.

Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay fell one spot to #9 in its fifth weekend, earning $915,000 to raise its total gross to $35.9 million.

The Visitor held on to the #10 spot with $781,000, raising its seven week total to $4.4 million.

So it seems that Indy has rocked the box office this weekend. I am glad to hear it though. Imagine the blow it would have been if it failed? Spielberg would have shot himself! Although that may not have been a bad thing. :)  Anyway here is how the weekend panned out. Nothing too crazy here. Although you have to remember. INDY did $101 million for Fri/Sat/Sun. If you add the Thursday opening, then it did an extra $25 million. Still not enough to beat Spiderman 3, but enough to make the charts and just de-throne Iron Man by 2.6 million dollars.
