Tron, A Touch of Nostalgic Gaming.

Now I don’t know how many of you remember/played/want to remember a game that came out a while ago for the pc called Tron 2.0. While not exactly the best game ever created by today’s standards, it had decent game play and a good story. Why amongst the platinum hits of today am I bringing this game up? Lightcycles. The only part of the game truly worth anything.

A conversation was struck with Andy about how cool it would be to enable our cars to act like lightcycles on our way to work, or down the highway. For those of you wondering what the hell I’m talking about, the lightcycle is a futuristic looking motocycle that projects a solid wall out of the back of it. The point in the movie/game was to create a path infront of another racer and have them crash into it.

So that little conversation hit my nostalgic button and I was wondering if anyone had cultivated the pure essence of this part of the movie/game. What I found was more than I bargained for. It’s called Armagetron Advanced. It’s a free version of the lightcycle game that lets you host, join and customize many aspects of the game. If you’ve got some time to kill and don’t mind smacking into walls repeatedly trying to find the perfect time to turn (you’ll see what I mean) give it a try.
