And this weekends winners are….

Did the Hulks smashing ability take down the Kung Fu of Jack Black? Lets take a look at what won the battle of the box office this weekend!

The Incredible Hulk debuted #1 at the box office this weekend, earning $54.5 million. The film had the highest per theater average of any in the top ten with $15,560 per theater. Considering that the movie cost over $150 million to make, it will need a strong second weekend to pull a profit in theaters. The film stands as the seventh biggest June opening ever, the 15th best Marvel film opening, but did not do as well as the previous Hulk which earned $62.1 million during its opening in June of 2003. (GO SEE THIS NOW! It was awesome!)

Kung Fu Panda fell to #2 in its second weekend, earning $34.3 million to raise its total gross to $117.9 million. (See this movie. Its done very well and incredibly funny)

M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening debuted at #3 with $30.5 million. With a cost of over $60 million, we’ll see if the film can turn a profit at the box office.

You Don’t Mess With Zohan fell two spots to #4 in its second weekend, earning $16.4 million to raise its total gross to $68.7 million. (Why didnt people heed my warning and skip this???)

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull fell two spots to #5 in its forth weekend, earning $13.5 million to raise its total gross to $275.3 million. The film has been a big success thus far.

The Strangers fell three spots to #8 with $4 million, raising its three week total to $45.3 million. This is another film that has been very successful as it cost just $9 million to make.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian continued to struggle, earning $3 million to raise its five week total to $131.7 million, well below the $200 million the film cost to make.
