I played Roogoo today!

(or how I came to remember that I absolutely hate skill puzzle games and that I really miss Starfox)

So I have been hearing the hype about Roogoo (the game based on a dream) lately and I have to say I had been very excited when I saw that the demo was available.  While I was waiting for it to download I happened to cross and decided to download Aces of the Galaxy, Warlords, and Ninja Gaiden 2 demos as well.

So I really have to say that this game have pretty good visuals and loading screens.  I was actually very happy with them.  I have to also say that the controls in this particular game are very intuitive and are very responsive.  Now although it seems to consist of only 2 buttons, I for one found that it brought back memories for me.  A: sitting in around as a child playing with the little sets of shaped blocks and shaped holes.  B: How much I hate most reaction speed puzzle games like Tetris.

All in all, having played it for about 25 minutes, I decided to stop so I didn’t get a migraine.  I already felt much sufficient anger building up in my system as the little blocks flew off into space and messed up my time score bonuses to see this was going to take me to a bad place.  If I had been improving instead of getting worse, that’s one thing, but I have always had the problem whereby my reaction time actually gets worse the longer I sit and play something like this.  That, coupled with the fact that they add more pieces and plates and that they start falling faster, made it so I just had to get out of there.

To be fair, it seems well put together.  I could tell that a lot of thought went into this game the second I sat down with it.  There are as I said very pretty little visuals, not groundbreaking, nor hardware straining, but pretty.  There are little cut-scene cinematics telling you the story of planet Roo and the magic meteors and evil king.  The loading screens even move and show things from the game so you don’t have to sit there bored like with the little rainbow six men running in place on most of these games.  It seems to take advantage of the newer, decent style that games are now using for their graphics on the live arcade as well.  It’s really not the game’s fault that I hate that kind of gameplay.  So if I was going to give it something higher than a 1/10 (which on personal preference I would), it would get a fair 7 or 8/10 since I would highly recommend it to people who do like that kind of thing and or children who like cartoony characters.

Secondly I have to say that Warlords is everything and less than Chris says it is in the 30 second review coming later this week…

Most of all I am just super happy that I decided to download Aces of the Galaxy!  It has decent graphics, fun controls and crazy action.  Now that’s my kind of game!  It’s like old-school Starfox for the SNES except with better graphics and more weapons, ranging from homing missiles to the ability to slow down time.  Now I just have to see if I can get someone on my friends list to buy this game as well so I can try the multiplayer!
