This weekends winners are…
by JamesWith two big boys at play this weekend, there was something for everyone. If you wanted action, then you got Wanted, but if you wanted fun, comedy, and animation, then you had Wall-E. I saw both of these amazing films and I suggest if you havent yet, you need to now! But who won this weekends battle of the box office? Lets find out.
The latest film from Pixar/Disney, Wall-E, debuted #1 at the box office with $62.5 million. The film cost $180 million to make, so will need to top the $200 million mark to turn a profit in theaters. The film now stands as the second biggest June opening ever behind Harry Potter and the Prisonor of Azkaban which earned $93.6 million during its opening weekend in June 2004. The film was also the forth best Pixar debut, behind Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Monsters, Inc. Wanted debuted at #2 with $51.1 million. The film had the highest per theater average of any in the top ten with $16,100 per theater. The film did way better than expectations and now stands as the biggest June opening EVER for an R-rated film. The film cost $75 million to make. Note to all you out there, its amazing. The effects, story, action, characters, its all there and rocks. For more on this, read the review by Alex here. http://sparkboxshow.com/2008/06/wanted-curving-bullets-and-kicking-ass.html#more-208
Get Smart fell two spots to #3 with $20 million, raising its total gross to $77.2 million. The film cost $80 million to make.
Kung Fu Panda fell one spot to #4 with $11.7 million, raising its four week total to $179.3 million. The film has been a huge hit, and rightfully so. Its amazing!
The Incredible Hulk fell three spots to #5 in its third weekend, earning $9.2 million to improve its total gross to $115.5 million. Seeing as this cost $150 mil to make, they have some ground to gain. Please go see it. I have, twice!
The Love Guru fell two spots to #6 in its second weekend, earning $5.4 million to raise its total gross $25.3 million, well below the $62 million the film cost to make.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull fell one spot to #7 in its sixth weekend, earning $5 million to improve its total gross to $299.9 million. The film has been a huge hit, easily surpassing its $185 million budget.
The Happening fell three spots to #8 in its third weekend, earning $3.8 million to raise its total gross to $59 million. The film cost $60 million to make.
Sex and the City fell one spot to #9 in its fifth weekend, earning $3.7 million to improve its total gross to $140.1 million. The film has more than doubled its $65 million cost.
You Don’t Mess With Zohan fell three spots to #10 in its forth weekend, earning $3.2 million to raise its total gross to $91.2 million. Please god strike this movie down!

So there you have it. Another sweet weekend for Hollywood. It suprises me that Wanted only did $11 million less then Wall-E, that just shows how strong of a movie it actually was. Seriously though, if you havent seen either, you need to now! Or you can pump some more money into the Hulk… I know I did.
