It had a little to do with Ledger's death and a lot to do with a great superhero action megahit of a movie. Before Ledger's death my friends and made plans to wait outside of the movie theater at 9 am opening night so that we could get tickets and great seats b/c we knew the theater was going to be way over crowded. Are we forgetting that this is a Dark Knight Series Batman Movie. C'mon, give the caped crusader some credit. The first was awesome and I knew that the second one was going to be better b/c of the joker, two-face and others.

OK we didn't mention him, but have you really ever seen Morgan Freeman have a bad performance? He also wasn't as big a roll as the last one, but still always note worthy.

I'll give you 50% because he died. there were plenty of people who wouldn't have seen this movie otherwise, that's a given. But after that it was all word of mouth about what an amazing movie it was. true they under advertised before Ledger's death, and it way too much after, but as a whole I think it deserved what it earned. Definately the best Batman to date.

Totally forgot Michael Cane.. Dammit. I knew I would forget someone. But on to your main reply, yeah you did forget that the Joker was Ledger, I wont knock that at all. But the initial weekend box office gross was strictly because he died. Look at the publicity this movie got before he died. Nadda. It was just another batman movie. But when he died, it was everywhere and that media coverage helped get the movie into more minds then thought possible. Hell maybe this is a great topic for our next show?

Well, I’ll go first. I DO agree that Ledger’s death added to the INITIAL sales of the movie. everyone on the “Heath Ledger train” went to see it as well as those of us (myself included) thinking “the guy from a knight’s tale and brokeback mountian? oh well.” My point is that the movie itself made you forget who you were watching. I totally forgot I was watching Ledger, as far as I was concerned that was the joker. Did the writers and director have a lot to do with it? yes. but give the same script and put george clooney back as batman and Jack Nickelson back as the joker, is it as good? NO.

as this is a long response I’ll end with this question for youm James:
How could you leave out Michael Cain as alfred in the list of great performances in the movie?!?
