Chris’ Christmas picks

Ok, ok I’m sure these ideas can work for Chanukah too…..

Well I’ve never done one of these list kind of post before and I figured why not. Everyone’s asking “what do I get my video game obsessed significant other for Christmas?” at least that’s what I’m hearing.  Just cause I’m a gaming addict, work for an entertainment based web site that highly focuses on gaming, and do a highly video game related podcast what makes anyone think I’m the one to ask this question to? …………..oh, right, I guess that does make me qualified.  My bad everyone.

Without further adue, my top 5 gaming picks for Christmas!!! (or Chanukah, Kuanza, Ramadan, or anything else)

Honorable mention.Rock Band 2/Guitar Hero World Tour.  They don’t count as separate games as they are basically the same thing.  Honestly I loved Guitar Hero 3. it was a lot of fun and this looks like the best last-ditch-effort to save the rhythm games before they end up going the way of DDR, honest politicians and the Dodo bird.  All the complete set needs when you buy it is the complimentary keg.

5.Soul Calibur 4. Did you read my last article?  If not I’m not going to repeat myself here. Please just go at least skim it to see why you need this game.

4.Smackdown vs Raw 2009.  I know what you’re thinking “how is this different then Madden releasing a game every year?”  In this they not only updated the roster but actually added a story mode and a 2 player co-op which has been missing since Raw 2 on the original Xbox. Also the graphics have been updated so the game play closely resembles the cut scene graphics without adding a ton of lag (supposedly they fixed the lag issue)

3. left 4 Dead.  I know Easter is the holiday we think of someone coming back from the dead but this year it can be Christmas too!!  This is one of the best zombie games so far.  Not necessarily story wise, but definitely for playability!  the 4 player online co-op makes this all the more fun.  What I like about it is it isn’t your run of the mill, feet shuffling zombies.  They can run, jump, climb, and man do they hate you.  also the ability to play as the special zombies makes this all the more fun.

2.Gears of War 2. Did you like Gears of war one?  if not, what’s wrong with you?  If so, get yourself a hat and get ready to hold on to it!  Having only played a little of the story mode, I already like it better then the sweep and clear we seemed to be doing in the first one.  You get your INSANE gore factor but also a feeling of accomplishing something at the same time.  Also if you’re into wave after wave of increasingly stronger, smarter guys who want nothing more then to curb stomp you into next week, you’ll love horde mode! for a good description of horde mode, please reread the last sentence. thank you.

1. Fallout 3. Ok the short version: this is post-apocalyptic, better storied, more immersive, better graphic, more gore Oblivion. with guns. and a puppy.  What more needs to be said.  This game has not received a bad review, even on Zero punctuation (which is an amazing feat) and  Gameinformer gave it a 9.5 out of 10. Even just the environments themselves are captivating.  Looking at screen shots it looks like they had artists come in, paint landscapes of the end of the world just so they could set a game in them. If that’s not enough your childhood years you have the comforting voice of Liam Neeson to guide you.  I can’t think of a more comforting fatherly voice then Oscar Shindler/Qui-Gon Jin, can you?  From what I have absorbed about the game whoever you get it for should take the week after Christmas off otherwise they’ll get fired for forgetting to go to work.

Ill pretty much agree with each of those on your list. Im still not high on SVR 2009, but who knows, it may turn out to be good. I know that fallout 3 is definatly on my list this year… And maybe a pony.
