This weekends winners are….

Paul Blart: Mall Cop opened at #1  at the box office with $33.8 million.

Gran Torino fell to #2 at the box office, earning $22.2 million over the weekend to raise its six week total to $73.2 million.

My Bloody Valentine: 3D opened at  #3  at the box office, earning $21.9 million.

Notorious opened at the #4 spot, earning $21.5 million. The movie had the highest per theater average of any in the top ten with $13,126 per theater. The high theatre average was also do to the film not being as widely distributed as the others. But it still had an impressive opening.

Hotel For Dogs opened at the #5 spot at the box office, earning $17.7 million.

Bride Wars fell four spots to #6, earning $11.7 million. The film has now made $37.5 million. Earning 7.5 million more then its budget.

The Unborn also four spots to this week, landing at #7 and earning $9.8 million to raise its two week total gross to $33 million.

After a limited release, Defiance jumped from the #35 spot all the way to #8, taking in $9.2 million to raise its total gross to $9.5 million in three weeks. The film had a budget of $50 million. If you get a chance, see this movie. It clocks in at a little over 2 hours, but honestly it feels like its half that. Great acting, amazing action scenes, and a nazi getting stabbed in the groin. What more can you ask for?

Marley and Me fell five spots to #9 at the box office with $6.3 million, bumping its four week total gross to $132.7 million.

Slumdog Millionaire improved one spot to #10, earning $5.9 million over the weekend and $42.7 million since opening. And seeing that this film had a $15 million dollar budget, you can bet the studio is very pleased.

For those interested, The Wrestler was up to #17 this week earning $1.7 million, raising its five week total to $5 million. The movie had a very good per theater average, taking in $12,153 per theater. Now I know what you are saying. ” But James, this movie only did 1.7 million this weekend. How was its per cap so high? ” Well thats simple, it is only showing in 65 theatres.
